Latinos: Crime Culture & Community

"Latinos: Crime, Culture & Community," is not a history course, or a culture or human diversity class, but an intensive examination of the "people" who make up the Latino community. It examines factors that are of grave importance to officers, supervisors and managers who recognize the presence of a Hispanic community.in their backyard. Not just the tattoos and hand signs of the gangs and street culture, but so much more! The course explores the make-up, mindset and languages of the barrio and some of the more serious gangs and criminal groups who prey on the community. Various Latino cultures are dissected and examined, drawing from their commonalities while emphasizing their differences. The 3-day class emphasizes qualities and behaviors that officers can readily recognize and use to enhance their professional social interactions, investigative abilities, intelligence collection resources and analytic perceptions and capabilities.

If one word can be used to describe the focus of the class, it is "characteristics." A study of those factors and traits that will give the officer a "leg-up," a true understanding and means to communicate and succeed, regardless of likely language barriers.
