Upon completion of this 5 day skills-building course, investigators will be able to conduct both routine and complex electronic and technical surveillance operations. These skills will enable them to acquire high quality intelligence that meets or exceeds accepted norms as well as judicial standards. Although not a "basic" level course, it is useful to investigators at any skill level. The curriculum concentrates on methods and applications of electronic intercepts and teaches officers "how to" conduct both conventional and unorthodox intercepts.
The instruction is broken down into the following blocks: federal laws governing electronic surveillance, electronics for investigators, acoustics and the science of sound, microphones and clandestine intercept devices, recorders (analog & digital), recordings as evidence, court presentation, miniature transmitters, intelligence receivers, tactical repeaters, antennas for intelligence use, doubling range and clarity of RF signals, surveillance video, video transmitters, high-gain video antennas, night vision applications, total-darkness imaging with 35mm equipment, effective telephone recordings, telephone and PCS security, electronic countermeasures, simple procedures for defeating select electronic counter surveillance and covert installation methods.
