This class builds upon the planning process taught in the Officer Safety, Level I: High Risk Event Planning System Course. It teaches diverse methods for team entries when securing evidence and/or suspects during high risk operations such as search warrants and arrests of dangerous suspects. Officer survival concepts and tactics are taught as they relate to the individual officer and team operations. These concepts and tactics are explained and demonstrated by instructors, and practiced by the student.
The above methods are employed by the student in practical exercises until fully understood and then incorporated into scenario based exercises to further enhance understanding and to increase retention of the skills. Basic building clearing techniques, hallways, basic shield tactics and movements, exterior or "open-air" movement, injured officer extraction techniques, basic mechanical breeching, and vehicle considerations are among the topics taught during the week. These techniques are among those employed by various Law Enforcement Agencies to manage critical or high risk events.
Students should bring their body armor, eye protection, gloves, load bearing equipment, helmet, flashlight, appropriate shoes, elbow and knee pads, web gear, rain gear for inclement weather plus any other entry related or safety equipment which they would employ in a high risk operation. Students do not need weapons or ammunition.
Prerequisites: Students must be a graduate of the MCTC's High Risk Event Planning Course.
